How to scan QR codes from phones, images, and screens

Use your camera, a local browser scanner, or an image upload workflow to read QR codes without guessing where they lead.

Scanning guide

Most modern phones scan QR codes directly from the camera app. A browser-based scanner is useful when you need to inspect a downloaded QR image, a screenshot, a print proof, or a code on another screen.

QR Code Crafter includes a local scanner page for reading QR payloads from an uploaded image or camera where the browser supports it. Files and decoded payloads are not uploaded to QR Code Crafter.

Key decisions

Use the camera first

Open the camera app, point at the QR code, and tap the prompt that appears after the code is recognized.

Upload an image when needed

For screenshots and downloaded artwork, use a local scanner so you can read the payload without printing it first.

Check before opening

Review the decoded link or text, especially for codes on posters, emails, or unexpected messages.
